The police chief thanked dispatchers and presented workload figures: the communications center handled 2,722 911 calls last year, 4,763 outgoing administrative calls and a total accumulation of 24,074 calls across the city and neighboring areas when the department covers calls for nearby jurisdictions. Staff said Tehachapi Police Department recognizes seven dedicated telecommunicators.
The council presented a proclamation and a brief public ceremony to honor dispatch staff. Council members and the chief discussed better public information to explain the difference between hazard maps and insurer risk models, and staff said they plan podcasts and other outreach to help residents understand the implications of the CAL FIRE map designations and emergency communications resources.
