Senate committee approves amendment adding 'locally grown' emphasis to human-right-to-food policy

Sen. Hurtado described the amendment as a way to align the state's commitment to the human right to food with support for local farmers and food systems. Peter Ansell of the California Farm Bureau testified in support, saying the change encourages state agencies to prioritize locally grown foods and could help buffer local supply chains amid federal funding uncertainties.
There was no opposition testimony in committee. The bill was moved forward on a unanimous voice/roll-call vote and now goes to Appropriations.
