Bannock County OKs trial rental of mastic road material for Chubbuck Flats maintenance

Buddy Romano, public works assistant director, asked commissioners to approve rental of a mastic machine from Specialty Construction Supply in Idaho Falls for a trial on roads in Chubbuck Flats.
Romano said the mastic material is applied in a three-foot-wide box to address alligator cracking and rutting in the pavement and that the county performed a successful demo last year on Lacey Road. He said Public Works plans to use about eight pallets of material during the two-week rental and estimated each pallet will cover roughly 250 to 400 feet of road surface.
Commissioners asked whether the material is for cracking or potholes; Romano said it is primarily for alligatoring and rutting but can be used over asphalt patches on potholes. He said the plan is to prepare cracks with mastic and then chip-seal over them.
A motion to approve the rental and use of the mastic material was made and approved by the board.
