Commissioners approve opioid-fund travel for district coordinators to attend drug-trends training

Jared Marsham, Trimble Court District manager, asked the board to approve travel funding from opioid-related grant funds to send five coordinators to an "emerging drug trends" conference.
Marsham said the requested training focuses on new drug trends and accessibility of substances and that last year he and a colleague attended on scholarship. "So my request would be for 5 of us to go," Marsham said, adding he planned to use opioid funding and to request cost-sharing from other counties so the south-county coordinator could attend. Marsham said the goal is to allow coordinators to compare content across conferences and return as a team to brief staff.
Commissioners discussed whether other counties would share costs and whether the funds were grant-based rather than county general-fund dollars. One commissioner noted, "It's no taxpayer dollars. Right. It's all grant funds," in reference to the funding stream. Commissioners approved a motion to pay travel costs to the conferences from opioid funds.
