Redford Union highlights Fresh Den pantry, laundry services and Vision to Learn eyeglass screenings

Recent local media coverage and a community response prompted a donor contribution; administrators said a Farmington-area resident gave a $1,000 donation after seeing a Fresh Den story, and staff teams used media outreach to increase public awareness and donations.
Witt and presentation slides highlighted a Vision to Learn screening in which district staff and partners provided eyeglasses to more than 200 high-school students. Leaders said the project reduced a classroom barrier for students who otherwise might not have identified vision needs; district staff said plans are in place to replicate the screening at the junior high and later at elementary schools.
Administrators also described holiday-season supports at multiple buildings: student families were connected with donations, elementary PBIS celebrations rewarded students for behavior and Beach Elementary partnered with a local hockey team that "adopted" a family for the holidays. The district noted the Fresh Den and related services are available at multiple buildings and that families may be referred for assistance.
No board action was taken; leaders asked the board to continue to promote donation opportunities and community partnerships.
