CRA board says proposed state bill that would eliminate CRAs is being closely monitored

Commissioners and staff used the April 7 CRA meeting to update the board and the public on state-level legislation that could affect the agency. Councilmember Yvette Drucker told the board that the CRA and city lobbyists have been actively tracking Senate Bill 1242, a proposal to eliminate community redevelopment agencies statewide.
Drucker said the bill passed the Senate Judiciary Committee on an 8–3 vote but added that Boca Raton’s two senators — Senator Berman and Senator Opulski — voted no. The city’s lobbyist and staff provided data and testimony to committee members, Drucker said, and the board will continue to monitor the proposal closely.
City officials and lobbyists have engaged the Florida League of Cities and other advocates to share local data about CRA outcomes and to urge lawmakers to consider the diversity of CRA models across Florida, board members said. The CRA’s leadership described the matter as important to downtown infrastructure financing and said they will continue outreach and monitoring as the legislative process proceeds.
No formal board action on state legislation was taken at the meeting; the discussion was informational and included a request to continue active advocacy and regular updates to the board if the bill advances further.
