NYC Parks and sculptor Neil Hamamoto will install a temporary public artwork titled Abstract Concrete in Canal Park on or around May 8, with the sculpture expected to remain on site for about a year, committee members heard.
Elizabeth Masella, senior public art coordinator for NYC Parks, told the Community Board 2 Parks & Waterfront Committee that the installation is part of the agency's Art in the Parks temporary public art program and that the artist plans to place the work in the center of Canal Park where the previous sculpture stood. "We just had another sculpture there by Mike Hansel that was just taken out. So this will be going in on or around May 8. We'll be there for a year," Masella said.
