VANDALIA, Ohio — At its April 7 meeting the Vandalia City Council presented proclamations and recognized staff changes and retirements.
Mayor Richard Herbst presented a proclamation declaring April 8, 2025, as Mike Blakesley Day in recognition of Mike Blakesley receiving the Marvin C. Link Distinguished Service Award from the Butler Chamber of Commerce. “We are all very proud of you,” Mayor Herbst said while presenting the proclamation. Blakesley spoke briefly and said he was “very honored and very humbled” to receive the award.
The council also proclaimed April 13–19, 2025, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, noting the role of 911 telecommunicators as the first contact in emergencies and the importance of accurate information for responders.
City Manager Althouse introduced new parks and recreation building maintenance technician Dakota Sizemore, who began March 12 and is a U.S. Navy veteran. The council also recognized two retirees: Tammy Ryan, administrative assistant to the judge and chief assignment officer at the municipal court (34 years of service, employed 02/11/1991–02/28/2025), and Joe Blosser of Public Works (32+ years). City staff praised their institutional knowledge and service.
The proclamations and personnel recognitions were ceremonial and received applause from council and attendees.
