VANDALIA, Ohio — The Vandalia City Council on April 7 approved a set of routine and policy items by unanimous vote.
Appointment: Larry Pearson was appointed to the city’s Golf Advisory Board. Councilman Lewis moved the appointment and Vice Mayor Blakesley seconded; the motion passed 7–0.
Liquor license actions: Council voted not to request an Ohio Department of Liquor Control hearing for a new retail liquor permit for 722 West National Road (Verma Treasure Inc., doing business as Curry and Grill). Miss Dugan moved the action and Miss Avalotus Weaver seconded; the motion passed 7–0. Separately, council voted not to object to renewal of any retail liquor permits in the city; Councilman Follick moved and Councilman Lewis seconded; the motion passed 7–0. Staff memorandum recommended no objections.
State Issue 2: Council approved Resolution 25‑R‑20 supporting renewal of the State Capital Improvement Program (State Issue 2) on the May 6, 2025 statewide ballot. Staff said the city received $3,109,000 from the program over the last 10 years. Councilwoman Farce moved the resolution; Councilman Follick seconded. The vote was 7–0.
Mowing contract assignment: Resolution 25‑R‑21 authorizes assigning responsibilities under the 2024 mowing and maintenance contract to Schill Grounds Management after the incumbent, Property Works, notified the city it would close its Dayton-area operations and could not fulfill the second year of the contract. Staff said Schill was the second-lowest bidder in 2024 and agreed to assume the contract at the existing rates. Councilman Follick moved the resolution and Vice Mayor Blakesley seconded; the motion passed 7–0.
Each item passed without further amendment. Where staff recommended non-action on liquor renewals, council followed the recommendation; where vendor changes were proposed, council authorized assignment under existing contract terms.
