Councilor Jordan moved adoption of the resolution on first reading; the motion was seconded and passed by an 8–0 roll-call vote. Councilors who voted yes were Glenn, Nipper, Dixon, Gordon, Wilkerson, Thompson, Jordan and Jones.
The resolution praises the team’s “exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship” and notes the team’s coaches, athletes and support staff for bringing recognition to the Lima community. Council members offered brief congratulations during the meeting. Councilor Wilkerson told the team, “The fact that you did it as a team is bigger than the score,” and encouraged the players to “bond with each other.”
A team representative accepted the council’s recognition and thanked members for honoring the players on behalf of Allen County Special Olympics. Council members invited several players and coaches to come forward during the meeting.
