Council approves Eagle Scout improvements at Slater Park

The North Smithfield Town Council on April 7 approved an Eagle Scout project proposed by Peter Croshaw to install stone-dust walkways and two flagpole lights at James S. Slater Memorial Park.
Croshaw described a three-workday project that includes excavation for an electrical trench, liquid-tight conduit and in-ground lighting fixtures and about 300 feet of 5-foot-wide stone-dust walkways. He estimated the total before donations at roughly $12,000 and said he had raised funds through local fundraisers and business solicitations.
Ray Pendergast, director of public works, told the council that DPW had vetted site ownership for proposed locations and assigned senior foreman staff (Jeff Allard and James Vadney) to guide the work. He said an on-site electrical service is available and that electrical-inspection and permitting steps would be followed.
The council approved the motion by roll call and requested Croshaw provide address details to the town clerk to facilitate donations. DPW will supervise the project and will handle coordination with the electrical inspector as required.
