Resident criticizes Troon’s Iron Horse business plan during public comment

A Leawood resident urged the council to require more detailed financial and operational trending, competitive analysis and event impact information in the Troon-prepared business plan for Iron Horse Golf Course.
During public comment at the April 7 meeting, resident Ron Vine urged the council to seek a more comprehensive business plan for Iron Horse Golf Course prepared by Troon, specifically requesting longer-term trending, detailed competitive-set analysis, tournament impact data and information about non-golf events.
Vine said he obtained a copy of a Sycamore Ridge business plan that included nine years of trending data and a multi-page competitive analysis and compared it to a short Troon business plan for Iron Horse that contained only two years of trending information. "The Iron Horse business plan provides trending information for only 2 years... I would suggest adding trending information for the past 9 years," he said. Vine also said the Troon plan lacked language addressing the effect of more than 50 planned tournaments and offered staffing and compensation questions he said were not answered.
Mayor Elkins thanked Vine and referred his comments to Parks and Recreation staff for additional conversation and review. No formal action was taken during the meeting; the item was raised as citizen comment on a consent agenda item and will be considered by staff as part of the parks review process.
