Finance staff and the city manager explained that the initial $50,000 authorization and a second $50,000 amendment left the city needing additional contingency; council approved another $50,000 amendment to cover outstanding bills and anticipated work. Officials said bills received to date included an invoice around $33,000 and a $10,000 retainer credit on account.
City management said the scope of the investigations grew after the initial authorization; the additional funding is intended to ensure the city can complete all outstanding investigative work without repeated emergency amendments. Council approved the budget amendment unanimously and asked staff to track costs and return if additional funds are required.
