Leawood approves $109,868.40 contract for crossing guard services

The Leawood Governing Body approved a contract April 7 with All City Management Services for crossing guard services not to exceed $109,868.40.
The item came from the consent agenda. Council Member Sippel asked Chief Robbins for clarity on hourly pay for individual crossing guards; the chief said he would confirm details and email the council. Chief Robbins explained the contract covers the vendormanagement, training, insurance and equipment in addition to guard pay. "That includes their management, their training, their insurance, and everything," he said.
A motion to approve the contract was made and seconded on the consent agenda and carried unanimously. Council members praised the programas important to student safety and noted the city had previously changed vendors and now relies on a vendor with supervision and training.
Council Member Sippel requested staff follow up with the exact hourly rate paid to crossing guards; Council Member Philip said the overall cost was "just a little bit over $30 an hour" as reflected in materials but asked the chief to confirm.
The contract is notated in council materials as an amount not to exceed $109,868.40 and will be administered by the police department.
