Amy Jaramillo identified herself as a parent with children at MES and Central and described arriving to drop off her daughter on March 3 when she saw emergency vehicles responding to a neighborhood incident that was later reported as a possible weapons sighting. Jaramillo said she “was furious that my daughter was allowed to get out of the car when she could have been told to get back in and leave and wait for the all clear from the school.”
She said students were told about the event only informally at home and that she believes staff did not discuss the facts afterward with students. After emailing the school to ask for information, she said she received “the form email to all parents that the current principal was not expected to return this year” and that a month had passed without substantive follow up.
The board's public comment procedures and a staff reminder noted that personnel complaints about an individual cannot be heard in open session and must follow the district's complaint process under board policy KL. After her remarks, board staff indicated follow up: a staff member said, “Mister Jason Clark will be reaching out to you,” to the speaker.
Jaramillo asked the board to consider broader participation in future decisions, saying that parents and students who are most affected should be included in deliberations. The board did not take action on the remark during the meeting but flagged it for staff follow up by the administrator named during the session.
