The board noted that out-of-zone appointments are one-year terms and returning in-zone applicants were given priority for seats in their home zones where applicable.
Supplemental transportation plan: The board adopted a revised supplemental transportation plan and the accompanying resolution to submit it to the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) for approval and to seek the state's 70% reimbursement for eligible transportation costs. The motion "to adopt the revised supplemental transportation plan and submit" was moved and seconded; the board voted 5-0 to adopt the plan and the accompanying resolution.
Staff described the plan as an update to a document last revised in 1992, attached maps in the packet and noted particular student counts affected by the walk-zone rules: approximately 60 special education students are currently transported within the district—s walk zones; Independence Elementary had roughly 25 students living across Highway 51; Ash Creek had one student within a walk-zone area lacking sidewalks; and the high school had two students near Hoffman and Highway 99 where sidewalks or safe shoulders are not present. Transportation staff said the supplemental plan would permit district transportation of students who otherwise would not be eligible and allow the district to seek 70% reimbursement from the state for those routes.
The board voted unanimously on each action; staff will finalize the transportation resolution for signature and submit it to ODE.
