The Schererville Plan Commission on April 7 granted secondary approval for a proposed Scooter's Coffee on Klein Commons Lot 1 at 790 U.S. Highway 30. The petitioner, Grit and Grind Holdings LLC represented by James Huss Jr., P.E. of DVG Team Inc., received a unanimous vote, 7-0.
At the meeting, the project representative said there were no substantive changes since prior reviews and that the team was working with the architect to secure state releases. "They're very eager after this approval to get underway and hopefully be in business by the end of the year," James Huss Jr., P.E., said.
Commission discussion briefly referenced traffic at another Scooter's location in Dyer; the petitioner said site circulation and on-property queuing at the Klein Commons site should avoid similar off-site impacts. Commissioner Chris Rack moved to approve the secondary development plan under the US 30 Commercial Corridor Overlay District with fees kept current to the Town of Schererville; Commissioner Miles Long seconded. Roll call showed approval by Bill Jarvis, Miles Long, Tom Kuris, Chris Rack, Bob Cocon, Gary Imig and Tom Anderson; motion passed 7-0.
Staff recorded the action as secondary approval under the overlay district and scheduled associated findings of fact. The petitioner thanked the commission and said the team will proceed with permitting and construction sequencing.
