Schererville plan commission approves BP gas station at 5601 U.S. 30

The Schererville Plan Commission on April 7 unanimously approved a secondary development plan for a BP gas station and Quick Run convenience store at 5601 U.S. Highway 30. Petitioner Lucky Business Inc., represented by engineer James Huss Jr., P.E., received a 7-0 vote for the project.
The approval will allow the petitioner to move forward under the US 30 Commercial Corridor Overlay District development standards, contingent on compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations and current fee payment to the Town of Schererville. "I don't have much to report tonight...we did just file with item for NOI to kinda get ahead of that, hopefully," James Huss Jr., P.E., said, describing agency filings the team had submitted.
Commissioners discussed timing only briefly. Huss said demolition of the existing structure could begin "possibly, even as soon as the next month," with construction to follow immediately. The motion to approve was made by Commissioner Chris Rack and seconded by Commissioner Miles Long. Roll call recorded unanimous support from Bill Jarvis, Miles Long, Tom Kuris, Chris Rack, Bob Cocon, Gary Imig and Tom Anderson; the motion passed 7-0.
The plan commission's paperwork identifies the action as secondary approval under the US 30 Commercial Corridor Overlay District; staff did not list any additional conditions at the meeting. The petitioner and project representative left after the vote and the commission moved on to the next agenda item.
