Board approves strategic‑plan amendments and adopts new textbooks

The Lexington‑Richland School District Five Board of Trustees on April 7 approved proposed amendments to the district strategic plan for calendar years 2022–2027 and approved a slate of textbook adoptions.

Strategic plan: Chief of Student Services and Planning Dr. Mike Harris and Director of Accountability Audrey Black presented amendments tied to the district’s math and reading growth goals, the use of MAP median conditional growth percentiles as an actionable assessment tool and other strategy updates. Harris said the amendments align district measurement and intervention work so educators can use fall/winter/spring interim data to adjust instruction before summative testing. “By using the median conditional growth percentile…we can look at what our students come back in the fall, what they are, to see if they're making that progress from fall to winter,” Black said.

The board voted to approve the strategic‑plan amendments 6–0.

Textbooks: The board also approved recommended textbook adoptions across grade levels and content areas after presentations from curriculum staff. Michael Giuliano, director of elementary education, recognized the district textbook coordinator and content specialists who led the multi‑stage review process. Trustees approved the textbook adoptions 6–0.

Why it matters: The strategic‑plan revisions set measurable growth objectives that guide curriculum, assessment and professional development choices. The textbook approvals update classroom materials used by teachers and students across the district.

Next steps: District staff said they will make implementation and communication plans for the new textbooks and continue to report assessment progress through the academic year.
