Mayfield Elementary was the board’s spotlight school, with principal Dr. Jessica Bigham describing the school’s academic programs, pastoral-care approach and community activities.
Bigham said Mayfield emphasizes “academic press and pastoral care,” combining data-driven instruction with initiatives to build belonging. She highlighted literacy and math gains, Response to Intervention supports, PBIS and a house-nest system that awards students for positive behavior. Bigham said the school has awarded more than 200,000 nest points this year as part of its recognition system.
Bigham described a second-grade project-based learning partnership with Mayfield Dairy in which students designed ice-cream flavors, presented pitches and toured the dairy. She also recognized kindergarten teacher Erin Cole as Mayfield’s teacher of the year, and named student Arlette Pacheco as a champion of the month.
Bigham noted several school traditions, community events and student successes, and closed by thanking the board for its support. She invited the board to view a short student video highlighting Mayfield’s work; the board saw the video during the meeting.
No formal action was taken; the presentation served as a district spotlight and community update.
