McFarland High students report $29,000 fundraiser, Model UN awards and spring activities

Four students—Tatum Kurtz, Aspen Tierney Oslerlott, Lydia Fossing and Gwen Detmers—won gold medals in a visual arts competition at Edgewood College.
Upcoming events the student noted: pre‑ACT testing for freshmen and sophomores on April 16; the high school musical “Lightning Deep” with performances April 25–27; a second annual equity picnic on April 24 hosted by the Connect Club with middle and high school equity clubs; and Bandorama on April 16. Athletics updates included fresh starts for softball, busy weeks for girls soccer and track and field invitationals, and initial competitions for boys golf and tennis.
Board members asked follow‑up questions during and after the student report about how Med Club conducted its fundraising and about the scope and participation in Connect Club and Hope Squad. The student presenter said Med Club used mailed appeals and personal outreach to donors and that Connect Club has struggled with early‑morning attendance but aims to increase participation this year. Board members praised the students’ work and asked administration for a future update on Hope Squad activities.
