Edmond schools award multiple bond-funded construction and upgrade contracts totaling millions

The board approved awarding subcontractor contracts for a new elementary school to L5 Construction-related teams in the amount of $25,500,000. The superintendent’s presentation said the design is similar to a recent school in the district but larger by about 5,000 square feet, with increases mostly in cafeteria space and an additional classroom; the presenter and trustees discussed labor availability and tariff risk for long lead-time materials. After a motion and second, trustees voted in favor of awarding the subcontractor package.
The board approved a replacement and coating for Cheyenne Middle School’s rooftop and HVAC labor package, awarding subcontractor work for $860,765 to be paid from bond funds. The superintendent said the project is largely replacement labor and that the coating should extend the roof’s life by about 10 years.
Trustees also approved a $2,000,000 contract for Summit Middle School cafeteria ceiling, lighting and associated upgrades, funded from bond proceeds, and a $662,486 contract for a full LED lighting upgrade and controls at Westfield Elementary School. The Westfield scope includes installing more than 1,000 luminaires and running low-voltage control wiring tied to dimming/occupancy control.
The board approved a $300,000 restroom update contract at Orvis Reiser Elementary to be paid from bond funds; staff said the work is being staged to avoid shutting the school down entirely by doing the restroom work in phases. Trustees also approved a $395,726 quote from Standard Roofing for a portion of the Central Middle School roof to be paid from bond funds; staff said Central is a heavily added-on campus and the project targets the areas with the most pressing leaks and wear.
Board members asked about project timing, contingency for tariffs, contractor workload and the phasing of work to avoid school interruptions. In each case the presenter recommended approval and the motions passed by roll call.
