Deputy Chief Mayes presented the Forest Park Fire & EMS 2024 annual report, reporting about 7,200 calls citywide, more than 2,000 patients handled by EMS and 101 fires last year. The department reported zero fire injuries and zero fatalities related to those fires and estimated $8.8 million in property saved after fires.
The department described operational coverage from three stations, roughly 89 employees and service across 9.3 square miles. Average daily call volume and busiest times were provided: the department averaged about 600 calls per month and about 20 calls per day; July was the busiest month and Thursday the busiest day. EMS statistics included 33 cardiac arrests and trauma and stroke alerts; the department reported six STEMI alerts and 21 stroke alerts.
Mayes reviewed training and readiness efforts: recruit classes, certification renewals, thermal imaging and live-fire training conducted at a regional burn facility. Community risk reduction activities included 1,037 fire inspections, 340 violations located and corrective actions; the department conducted smoke-detector distribution events in coordination with the Red Cross.
Council members thanked department leaders and discussed local needs including a permanent local burn-training facility and resources to support the department's mission. The department budget for the year remained about $9.3 million.
