Preservation group says Oakwood Gatekeeper's House restoration nearing completion, ribbon cutting planned

A representative of the High Point Preservation Society told council the restoration of the Oakwood Memorial Park Gatekeeper's House is nearly complete and will open as a visitor resource center with audiovisual exhibits, a GPS guides-to-gravesites system and historic databases.
John Conrad, a board member of the High Point Preservation Society, said the project will include two documentary films — one on Oakwood Cemetery and another titled the Hayworth Legacy — and that the gatekeeper's house will serve genealogists and visitors from around the country. Conrad told the council the site’s audio-visual and GPS systems were being installed and that a ribbon-cutting ceremony is likely in mid-May.
Conrad thanked the city for cooperation on the project and invited council members in advance of a formal date announcement.
