Princeton — Charles Williams, a Princeton resident, used the April 7 public-comment period to press the board to complete drainage work on Hinton Road that he says is backing up onto his farm and damaging his property.
Williams said water that flows from nearby developments and roadways continues to back up at Hinton Road and on to his land. He told the board he and his sister have spent close to $60,000 over the last four and a half years trying to rework a ditch and control runoff. “The water is actually Princeton's responsibility. It's coming off y'all. It's coming through my property,” Williams said in public comment.
Williams described one recent heavy rain that left several feet of standing water on his side of the ditch and said the tile in a portion of the channel is undersized. He said the town had cleaned some areas this year but had not completed work on a downstream segment he believes should be cleared, and he said he was not notified about recent rezoning and development he thinks will increase runoff. Williams invited town officials to visit his property and review the conditions.
Town officials acknowledged his concerns in the meeting and said they would coordinate inspections and follow up. The town’s staff and DOT representatives had previously visited parts of the drainage system, staff said, and DOT work was limited to the agency’s right-of-way. Williams requested the town complete the remaining clearing work and said he expected earlier promises from the town to be kept.
The board did not take formal action during public comment; staff said they would follow up with Williams and arrange a site visit.
