Parish announces siren tests, large-item pickup, market days and community events

Outdoor warning sirens: parish communications reminded residents that outdoor warning sirens are owned and maintained by the Waterford 3 nuclear facility and are tested at noon on the first Thursday of every month. Waterford 3 has allowed St. Charles Parish to use the sirens for other emergency situations, including tornado warnings and hurricane events. The parish advised that if the sirens sound, residents should stay calm, tune to local TV or radio including SCP TV and avoid tying up phone lines for official business. The parish directs residents to stcharlesparish.gov (Departments → Emergency Preparedness) and to sign up for emergency alerts by texting "SCP alerts" to 888777.
Large-item trash removal: the Contract Monitor's Office handles large-item pickup requests. Residents should place debris in a neat, compact pile at the curb and schedule pickup by calling (985) 331-8604 or using SCP Report It on the parish website (Residences → Residential Garbage Collection → Debris Removal). The parish warned scheduling and truck availability may require up to two weeks for pickup.
German Coast Farmers Market: officials described the Saturday market in Destrehan and a weekly Wednesday pop-up at West Bank Bridge Park from roughly noon to 5 p.m., noting programs that accept SNAP and senior market coupons.
Other community items: parish president Matthew Jewell reported results from a recent household hazardous-waste collection (including drums of motor oil, 10 pallets of electronics and a roll-off of tires) and promoted an upcoming rabies vaccination drive on Sunday, April 27 (9 a.m.–noon) at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center; residents must show ID, pay in cash and bring dogs on leashes or cats in carriers. The parish also promoted a Trash Bash volunteer cleanup (supply distribution April 11–12), the First Responders Crawfish Cook Off on April 12, and Prime Time Seniors activities.
