A special meeting of the council on April 7 resulted in a sequence of unanimous votes to fill vacancies and set leadership on several local boards and commissions.
The council appointed residents and reappointed existing members across the Animal Advisory Board, Library Board, Economic Development Board, Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustment, and selected chairs and vice chairs for two commissions. All motions reported in the meeting passed by the six members present; one member was recorded as absent for the votes.
Councilmember Allen moved to nominate resident veterinarian Joe Quinn as the veterinarian member of the Animal Advisory Board, Vicky Reed as a citizen-member, and Hannah Fugit as the rescue-member; the motion was seconded by Dr. Woodrow and passed 6-0 with Mr. Finch absent. A motion by Councilmember Allen then appointed Georgeann Moss as a regular member of the Library Board and Carol Walker as an alternate; that motion was seconded and passed 6-0 with Mr. Finch absent.
On the Economic Development Board, Councilmember Allen moved to reappoint Mark Eldridge, Tina Chase, Ryan Finch and Councilmember Larry Allen, and to appoint David Klaver (place 1) and Nick Talbot (place 3); the motion was seconded and passed 6-0 with Mr. Finch absent. For the Planning and Zoning Commission, the council appointed Cheryl Corson to an alternate position by a motion from Councilmember Allen, seconded by Councilmember Clark, which passed 6-0 with Mr. Finch absent.
The council also made appointments to the Board of Adjustment. Councilmember Adam (surname as spoken in the record) moved to appoint Cody Quinnie and Robin Raju as alternate members and to reappoint Deborah Pandian McKay; the motion was seconded by Councilmember Eldridge and passed 6-0 with Mr. Finch absent.
For leadership positions, Councilmember Allen moved to nominate Jim Wade as chair and Jordan Lewis as vice chair of the Board of Adjustment; the motion was seconded by Dr. Woodrow and passed 6-0 with Mr. Finch absent. On the Planning and Zoning Commission, Allen moved to appoint Jerry Johnson as chair and Kevin Points as vice chair; that motion was seconded and passed 6-0 with Mr. Finch absent.
The meeting record shows no substantive discussion or policy debate surrounding the appointments; motions were made, seconded and then voted on in sequence. The council adjourned the meeting at 7:39 p.m.
Votes at a glance: each appointment motion passed by a recorded 6-0 vote among members present; the meeting repeatedly notes that “Mr. Finch” was absent for votes.
