Resident tells council trash pickup has worsened under new contractor Rumpke

Smith said that under previous providers residents could put out larger items and the hauler would take them; under Rumpke, he said, mattresses and large items are being rejected unless they are wrapped or meet stricter limits. “Drive around the community. You’ll see stuff that has been laying there 3 or 4 weeks that they won't pick up,” Smith said. He also described a neighbor with medical issues who had trouble getting an extra hopper returned to the curb and described a household being charged for excess bags.
Council President Dixon and the clerk offered to follow up privately to get addresses and additional information so staff could investigate the specific complaints. No formal motion or council action on the contractor or contract terms was recorded during the meeting.
What happens next: Council members asked the resident to meet with staff after the meeting to provide addresses for follow up; the clerk said staff would look into the matter and report back to the council where appropriate.
