During unscheduled public appearances the council heard from Teresa DeSanti, who described an April incident in which Avondale Fire Department personnel arrived in a pickup truck rather than a fire engine after a neighbor's injury. DeSanti said the person injured—a relative of her neighbor—sustained a head injury after a metal pipe fell and required surgery.
DeSanti asked why a full-sized fire engine had not been dispatched. The mayor asked the chief to step outside after the meeting to discuss the incident and the chief agreed to review the response and speak with DeSanti. Council did not take formal action during the meeting but the chief offered an on-the-record follow-up and staff indicated they would address the concern at the next council meeting if additional information is needed.
