The City of Brooksville on April 7 awarded the Markham Lane waterline replacement contract to Carl Hankins for $187,928.50.
Public Works said the existing service to about 15 homes is served by a 3/4‑inch galvanized line that has corroded, causing chronic low pressure when multiple households use water simultaneously. The replacement will install a 4‑inch main along most of the run and a 6‑inch connection where necessary to tie into the larger system; a fire hydrant will also be added.
Staff said the project will assist the city with compliance with its 10‑year lead and copper program mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in October 2024. The contract was awarded following a competitive bid process; the recommended contractor was chosen for qualifications and prior work with the city. Funding will come from water connection fees.
Council approved the award by voice vote, 5–0.
