Commissioners approve RFQ to study feasibility of outdoor community pool at wellness center

Commissioner Garrison Wagner told the board the recreation committee recommends issuing a request for qualifications to explore design and feasibility for an outdoor community pool at the county wellness center.
"It is the recommendation of the recreation committee that we push forward with an RFQ to see what parties may be interested in providing some design and architecture type plans, to see how feasible this, this project would really be," Wagner said.
Wagner told commissioners the county currently has approximately $375,000 in a fund designated for the community pool and that using that money to fund RFQ work would not affect this fiscal year's budget. "We still have approximately $375,000 in a skiff fund, that is only designated for the use of the community pool," Wagner said.
Commissioners discussed timing and the need for design review; one commissioner noted the earliest construction would likely be in a later year and emphasized starting design work now. A motion to issue the RFQ was made and seconded; commissioners voted in favor.
No definitive design or construction contract was awarded. The RFQ moves the project into a feasibility and design stage; commissioners directed staff and the recreation committee to prepare the RFQ language for board review before release.
