County staff presented a draft memorandum of understanding (MOU) intended to clarify responsibilities for the farmers market held on town property.
"Jose asked for a meeting with us to sort of, have us put our heads together and figure out who's responsible for what with when it comes to the farmers market," a county presenter said. The draft MOU is available for review by commissioners and the town.
Jill, the county local foods coordinator, and Amy, who manages the market, were both referenced in the discussion. Amy said she has been involved with the market for several seasons and described the MOU as intentionally short and general. "I think most everybody knows, you know, I've been with market for this will be my sixth season," Amy said. She said the market manager role is funded in part by the county but the market operates on town-owned property, which prompted the need to clarify responsibilities.
County and town staff said the MOU renews automatically unless actively ended, and that the document was intended to spell out recurring responsibilities to avoid past misunderstandings about who was responsible for specific tasks.
Commissioners agreed the draft was a good first step and that the document would also go to the town for its review; no formal action was taken during the meeting.
