Southern Zone supports Sina Nezad for assistant vice president; board designates NCWS delegates for national meeting in New Orleans

Committee members and the Board of Architectural and Engineering Examiners discussed Southern Zone (NCWS) association business and delegate funding during the April 3 meeting. The committee endorsed Sina Nezad for Southern Zone assistant vice president and recommended which board members should receive NCWS-funded delegate slots to the national meeting in New Orleans, Aug. 19–22, 2025.
At the committee meeting, members reviewed resumes for the two candidates for Southern Zone assistant vice president, Sina Nezad and Steven Twit. Committee members who reviewed the resumes said Mr. Nezad stood out for experience with NCWS and local organizations; a motion to support his candidacy passed in committee. "He seems to have a tremendous amount of not only experience but also with NCWS," one committee member said during the discussion.
The committee also considered which Tennessee board members to designate as NCWS-funded delegates for the national meeting. In committee, members proposed James Collins, Jason Carter and Dr. Ash El Sayed as NCWS-funded delegates. That committee recommendation was carried forward to the full board.
During the full board session, staff reported the national meeting delegation and funding needs and asked the board to approve sending all five board members to the NCWS national meeting, with three funded by NCWS and two state-funded. The full board approved the motion; the record shows the NCWS-funded delegates will be Jason Carter, Dr. Ash El Sayed and James Collins, with the two other engineers to be state-funded.
Board staff noted NCWS typically issues a stipend that covers meeting costs for funded delegates and that delegates should disclose if they plan to extend their stay or have guests; such expenses beyond the standard NCWS stipend would be the delegate's responsibility. The board also discussed that anyone serving on an NCWS committee should be considered for NCWS funding because committee work can require attendance and participation at national meetings.
The committee's endorsement of a Southern Zone officer and the board's delegation and funding decisions will be reported by the board's NCWS representatives at the national meeting.
