UN: Yemen appeal underfunded as humanitarian needs grow

The UN noted that this year’s humanitarian appeal for Yemen — described in the briefing as requiring 2,500,000,000 United States dollars — was “less than 7% funded,” with about $173,000,000 in the bank.
UN humanitarian partners reported that, despite reaching about 8,000,000 of the most vulnerable with aid last year, increasing needs and fewer operational partners on the ground mean the gap between need and delivery is widening. The spokesperson told reporters that aid workers face a challenging operating environment that includes insecurity, detention, bureaucratic impediments and interference.
