Griggs County commissioners voted to adopt a new hourly-rate schedule for county road equipment after the county road supervisor told the board the prior schedule dated to 2013 and no longer covered higher parts and blade costs.
The change affects motor graders, plow trucks, mowing and other heavy equipment. Road Supervisor Wayne told commissioners that motor graders had been charged at $75 per hour under the old schedule; the new county schedule raises graders to $120 per hour for townships and cities and $125 per hour for motor work. Snow-removal and similar work for townships will be charged $125 per hour. County plow trucks increased from $80 to $100 per hour. For private work, the road office proposed higher rates: snow removal and blading at $150 per hour, and a range of tractor/loader and specialty equipment rates between $120 and $200 depending on the attachment and trailer size.
Wayne said surrounding counties charge at least $120 per hour and that the county’s charges had been “fairly reasonable” but needed to rise to reflect market conditions and the cost of parts and blades. Commissioners discussed operational considerations including equipment wear when working on private land and the option to decline private jobs that would cause excessive damage to county equipment.
Commissioner Gabriel moved to adopt the new equipment-rate schedule for Griggs County; Rod seconded. The board approved the motion by voice vote. Commissioner Edlund, Commissioner Gabriel and Commissioner Dorn were explicitly recorded as voting "aye" during the roll call portion of the voice vote and the chair declared the motion carried.
Commissioners asked the road office to publish the new rate sheet on the county website so townships and residents can review current charges. Wayne said the road office would provide the schedule to the county website and noted operators would exercise discretion on high-wear private jobs.
The action updates Griggs County’s rate authority for equipment rentals and contract work; the board did not alter service minimums beyond the one-hour minimum Wayne said still applies.
