Rankin County supervisors approve consent items, contracts and permits; postpone countywide stormwater referendum this year

At its April 7 meeting the Rankin County Board of Supervisors approved a series of routine and contract actions — including tax roll adjustments and refunds, a construction change order, and authorization for a standby disaster-debris monitoring contract — and voted not to proceed with a countywide nonbinding referendum on forming a joint water management (stormwater) district this year.

Consent, tax and assessment items: County staff presented multiple routine consent items and tax-roll adjustments that the board approved by motion. Those items included authority to void homestead chargebacks and to void tax-sale records for specified parcel identification numbers when the property was determined to be exempt or acquired by a public entity (examples cited by staff included parcels dismissed by the Mississippi Department of Revenue, tax-sale voiding for a parcel acquired by the Pearl Public School District as a sixteenth section, and several corrected tax statements for 2022–2024). The board approved petitions to adjust supplemental homestead exemption rolls and various assessment and refund requests during the consent portion of the meeting.
