Dare County commissioners authorized the county manager to negotiate and execute a pre‑positioned contract with Thompson Consulting to provide disaster debris monitoring and related services for federally declared storms.
Dustin, who presented the item, said FEMA requires the county to have a contract in place to be eligible for reimbursement after a federally declared disaster and that the county typically issues these contracts on a five‑year cycle. Thompson Consulting was the low responsive bidder among four proposals and has served as the county’s consultant for the past decade. "They do an excellent job. They're familiar with Dare County," Dustin said.
The contract term proposed is three years with two optional one‑year renewals; the board authorized the county manager to finalize and sign the agreement. The motion to approve carried unanimously by voice vote.
