Cumberland County confirms several board appointments; jury commission and equalization votes completed

Catherine Maribel was approved to the jury commission after a contested nomination; board members voted to appoint her after the meeting record showed the other nominee, Tracy Pelt, was ineligible because state statute limits service to two boards. For the equalization and review board, commissioners cast votes and approved Rodney Sherrill and Tracy Henderson to fill two general-public vacancies. The board also approved a personnel adjustment on the board of adjustments, moving Gary Silverman from an alternate to a full member and appointing Jason Tulczak as an alternate member.
County staff and commissioners described a revised nominations timeline. The boards-and-commissions committee reviewed applications and new nominees prior to the meeting; nominees put forward from the floor have until April 25 to complete or update applications on file. Several boards with only one nominee per vacancy were advanced without a formal vote and will be scheduled for appointment at the May meeting (the board clarified May 5 as the first meeting in May to complete those appointments).
Several nominees were read into the record during the meeting, and many were deferred for appointment on May 5 or May 7. Commissioner Adams raised questions about statutory limits on simultaneous service; county counsel confirmed statutory limits may render an appointee ineligible for appointment if already serving on two boards.
The appointments approved at the meeting will be processed by the clerk’s office; staff reminded nominees and attendees to file application materials by April 25 if nominated from the floor.
