Supervisors approve DD14 payment request and authorize repairs on DD3 ditch

The Worth County Board of Supervisors voted to approve a payment request for DD14 and separately authorized repairs and improvements to drainage district DD3 after discussing ownership and prior work in the channel.
During the discussion supervisors noted the DD14 item and confirmed a payment request was ready for signature. "I'll motion to approve that payment request," one supervisor said; another seconded and the motion carried with voice vote.
The board then addressed DD3, a ditch that runs through state-owned DNR land and private parcels before emptying near Rice Lake. Supervisors said a contractor (identified in past work as Rug) previously removed trees and cleaned the ditch; bank growth of willows and other vegetation has made spraying insufficient and requires mechanical cleaning. One supervisor recommended a "courtesy call" to Rob Patterson, a landowner with property adjacent to the ditch, to advise him of planned work. The board moved to obtain bids, issue a work order and proceed with repairs; that motion carried by voice vote.
Supervisors discussed easement expectations and said they believe an easement exists on parts of the channel, noting a prior invoice from Dec. 2021 that described tree removal and cleanup. One supervisor reported the cleaned channel extends from the outlet to the highway and estimated the total length at about 4,000 feet.
Ending: The board directed staff to contact affected landowners, obtain bids and move forward with the DD3 work order after confirming details and easements.
