Circuit Court seeks level funding for most programs; cites grant support for security upgrades

Melissa Buskirk, deputy court administrator, and Annie McDonald, court administrator for the Allegany County Circuit Court, presented the court's operating budgets and asked the commissioners to fund most programs at current levels.
They said the circuit court manages 10 departmental budgets, seven of which they requested be funded in full; three budgets are predominantly grant‑funded (family services, drug court, and peer‑to‑peer programs). The child support administration is about two‑thirds funded by outside sources.
Court administrators said they are not asking for staff increases and reported new equipment and grant awards: a new x‑ray machine obtained through a grant requires a $5,000 maintenance contract and the court received a $190,000 security grant this fiscal year and an additional $78,000 for an emergency intercom system next year.
Administrators asked for level funding where possible and said they will work with commissioners to identify additional cuts if necessary.
