IGR committee votes to support University of Oregon resolution honoring women's indoor track championship

Members of Eugene's Intergovernmental Relations Committee voted April 2 to support a request from the University of Oregon for a legislative resolution recognizing the university's women's indoor track and field NCAA championship.
The committee considered a draft resolution the university asked the city to endorse. Ethan Nelson, the committee's IGR manager, said the request was a "pretty small ask" and noted precedent for city support when university teams have won national championships.
"The U of O is an important partner here locally, and they contribute to our economy, our quality of life, our culture," Nelson said.
A committee member moved to support the resolution and a second was recorded. The committee voice vote was "Aye. Aye," and the chair declared the motion carried. The committee did not record a roll-call tally naming individual voters in the record; two committee members were present and voiced assent.
The resolution is nonbinding and ceremonial. Staff said the mayor could deliver a supporting letter or provide testimony when the resolution goes before the state House Committee on Rules and subsequently the House floor.
