Commission approves $1.015 million amendment to 2025 budget to record previously approved projects

The Walker County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved Resolution R-025-25 on April 3 to amend the fiscal year 2025 budget by $1,015,093 to record previously approved projects and other one-time expenditures that had not been entered into the legal budget document.
Angela Butner, Walker County Chief Financial Officer, told the commission the items covered by the amendment were largely previously approved by resolution but had not been carried into the formal budget. "These are all additions to the budget this year," Butner said, describing items such as the Adventure Acre project, playground work and other identified capital and operating expenditures.
Chairwoman Angela Teams and commissioners discussed the amendment during the meeting. Commissioners asked whether the changes increased ongoing base budgets; Butner said most items were one-time expenditures and generally would not carry forward into the next fiscal year. The largest single item identified was the Adventure Acre project, which had $500,000 previously approved and now must be entered formally into the FY2025 legal budget.
Commissioner Wilson made the motion to approve the amendment; Commissioner Askew seconded. After brief discussion, the board voted unanimously to adopt the resolution.
Butner and commissioners said staff will ensure the budget entries are documented in accounting records and will follow up on items identified in the amendment list.
