A visiting delegation of Salvadoran mayors and representatives from the municipal association Comures addressed the City Council to thank Los Angeles for assistance following recent earthquakes in El Salvador and to accept documentation related to a municipal vehicle transfer.
Oscar Samuel Ortiz (Comures) told the council that Los Angeles’ support after the January earthquakes had been significant; council staff and councilmembers reported obtaining seven surplus vehicles to assist reconstruction efforts and completing title-transfer arrangements. Councilmember Nick Pacheco said the transfer had been processed and that ASOSAD (Association of Salvadorians in Los Angeles) would report back within two years on how the city’s contribution was used.
Council members presented certificates of welcome to the visiting mayors and exchanged remarks of solidarity. The city’s action at the meeting was symbolic and administrative: council staff completed the handoff of contract/exchange documentation and recognized the delegation in a ceremony on the council floor. No binding foreign-aid appropriation was made on the council floor during the session.
Ending: Councilmembers asked for follow-up reporting and for continued coordination with local Salvadoran organizations; ASOSAD was designated to receive the vehicle transfer documentation and expected to report back in two years on reconstruction outcomes.
