"I urge you all to support this," Garcetti said during the presentation before the vote.
The resolution as approved directs the city to communicate the council's support to the governor and other state officials. Garcetti noted the bill's protections extend across age groups and household types, highlighting that many registered domestic partners in California are elderly.
The council heard no public opposition during the special hearing. With the council's action, the resolution will be transmitted to the mayor's office for further transmission to state officials as appropriate.
The vote: 11 ayes; item approved and sent forthwith.
