Commission staff and the presenter noted that the commission currently has $7,792.60 left to distribute this fiscal year and that the five applications together request substantially more than the available funds. The subcommittee will determine whether applicants meet requirements and whether follow-up information should be requested before the full commission makes final funding recommendations in May.
Commissioners emphasized the usual practice of inviting applicants to the May meeting to answer questions about their submissions. Committee members said they have asked for additional funds in next year’s budget but that the current spring cycle presents a common pattern of higher demand than available grant dollars.
Members who want to join the grants subcommittee were asked to email staff; the subcommittee will report its initial recommendations to the full commission at the May meeting.
