Commissioners approve utility permit for Atlas Broadband buildout in Tiwa area

The Rogers County Board of County Commissioners approved a utility permit allowing Atlas Broadband to cross and parallel county highways and local roads in and around the Tiwa area, the board was told.
Staff described the project as a large buildout in the Tiwa area approximately 1.5 miles southeast of Highway 66 and East 510 Road, and noted that the packet included maps and a spreadsheet identifying the affected roads. Commissioners approved the permit by voice vote.
A county official told the board this activity is part of a broader broadband buildout awarded among multiple internet service providers; the official said roughly $30 million was awarded split among providers and that Rogers County would see construction activity by Atlas and other providers as work begins. The official characterized the award as a positive development for increased broadband access in the county.
Motion to approve the permit was seconded and recorded as aye by the commissioners; the motion carried.
