Assembly committee hears AB100 to create state aerospace office, expand support for rural airports

The bill would integrate concepts from AB293 (2015 session reference in sponsor remarks) and revise appropriations in existing air service funding to the new aerospace fund described in the amendment.
Representatives of the Nevada Aviation Association, Nevada Association of Counties, Clark County Department of Aviation (Harry Reid International Airport), Reno‑Tahoe Airport Authority, Elko Regional Airport and local elected officials testified in strong support. They described leveraging an initial state appropriation into federal funds, cited local projects paid with the Nevada Fund for Aviation (runway rehabilitation, apron expansion, fuel farms and weather stations), and urged a centralized state office to coordinate advanced air mobility and statewide strategic planning. Elko officials said their region contributes significant local funding to maintain at least one daily commercial flight.
No callers or witnesses registered opposition in Las Vegas or by phone; the bill sponsor closed the hearing and thanked supporters. The committee did not take a committee vote on AB100 during the hearing.
