City staff proposes moving Agoura Hills Planning Commission start time to 6 p.m.; council action required
Summary
Staff told the Planning Commission that a proposal to change the commission’s start time to 6:00 p.m. will be on the April 17 agenda for discussion and would require a City Council code amendment; if adopted on the council schedule described, the change could take effect in August.

The Agoura Hills Community Development Department staff announced a proposal to move Planning Commission meetings to a 6:00 p.m. start time to align with City Council meeting hours and make meetings more accessible to the public.
Denise Thomas, the city’s community development director, said the item will be placed on the Planning Commission’s April 17 agenda for discussion and that the change would require City Council action because it would be a municipal code amendment. Thomas told commissioners the proposed schedule would be presented to City Council in May; state law and the city’s process would require a 30‑day period after adoption before the change becomes effective. Thomas said that, given the commission’s July recess, the earliest practical start date for the new meeting time would be August.
The staff rationale is to reduce the period between City Hall closing and meeting start, and to increase public attendance by aligning start times with City Council meetings. Thomas asked commissioners for input at the April 17 meeting and invited commissioners who cannot attend to forward comments to staff in advance.
No action was taken at the meeting; the item was announced in a staff comment and will return for commission discussion at the April 17 meeting. If the City Council approves a code amendment, the change will follow the normal adoption timeline described by staff.
