Board member proposes moving public meeting to follow study session to shorten gaps

Robert Volkmann, a member of the Schererville Town Board of Safety, proposed Thursday that the board schedule the public meeting to follow immediately after the study session to reduce time gaps between the two and speed the overall meeting process.
"I'd like to explore with the board of changing the scheduling of the meeting to have the public meeting scheduled to follow immediately after the study session to expedite time," Volkmann said, adding that the Planning Commission already uses that arrangement.
Police Chief Peter Sormoz said he would "definitely look into it" and check with other board members. A town attorney noted that meeting notices would need to clearly state the timing if the board adopted the change. Deputy Chief Steve McNamara and other board members expressed support in principle; one member observed that the change could work whether a study session ran long or short.
No formal motion or vote was recorded on the proposal; members asked staff to investigate logistics and posting requirements and report back at a future meeting.
