Commission approves engineering assignment, broadband and power support letters and vouchers

Duchesne County commissioners on March 31 approved several routine and policy items in a single set of votes: an assignment order with Jones & Mill Engineering, a letter of support for a regional broadband grant application, a letter supporting Deseret Power's planned pollution-control and gas peaking projects at the Bonanza Power Plant, and the county's payment vouchers for the March 31 run.
The commission approved an assignment order that continues on-call general engineering services provided to the county (work has primarily supported the road department). The chair was authorized to sign the agreement on the county's behalf.
The commission also approved a letter of support for a local entity's application to the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program (referred to in the meeting as the "Strat Network Speed" program). County staff said the letter was one of several support letters requested by local partners; a commissioner moved to sign the letter and the motion was seconded and approved.
Separately, commissioners considered a letter prepared by county staff in support of Deseret Power's plans to install selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology at the Bonanza Unit and to add a gas peaking unit that would provide an additional 51,000,000 watts of generation capacity at the Bonanza Power Plant. A motion to sign the letter, with a minor correction noted by a commissioner, was moved and seconded and the commission approved the letter.
County staff presented the vouchers (payments) register for March 31 and answered itemized questions about payees and descriptions; commissioners moved to approve the vouchers as presented and the motion was seconded and approved.
Other business approved in open session included a procurement assignment for ongoing engineering support (Jones & Mill Engineering) and routine calendar and personnel items.
Ending: Staff will forward executed documents and letters to partners and vendors, and county finance staff will process the approved vouchers.
